Ed McNamara LF '95
Ed McNamara is currently leading two professional lives.
Ed is a real estate developer in Portland, Oregon specializing in affordable housing. Since starting his own company in 2002, Ed has developed two mid-rise, mixed-use apartment buildings in Portland’s Pearl District. Prior to that, Ed worked for another developer, was executive director of a nonprofit community development corporation, and was a building contractor. Altogether, Ed has developed more than 1,200 units of housing in buildings totaling more than 1,000,000 SF.
In early 2013, Ed was recruited to become a Policy Director for Portland’s Mayor. In Portland’s unusual commission form of government, elected officials oversee the city bureaus. Ed is currently working with the city’s urban renewal agency, the planning bureau, and the bureaus responsible for permitting.
While Ed is working full-time for the Mayor, he has put new development work on hold, but he does continue to oversee the properties he owns.
Ed attended Reed College for one year in 1970-71 and was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in 1994-95. Ed later served for 10 years on the Loeb Fellowship Alumni Council, including 3 years as vice-president and 4 years as president.
