Renée Cheng AB '85, MArch '89

Renée Cheng, FAIA, is a nationally renowned Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota. Educated at Harvard College and Harvard Graduate School of Design, Cheng has been recognized for education excellence including twice honored as one of the top 25 most admired design educators in the United States by DesignIntelligence. She continues to develop award-winning curricula at the School of Architecture where she is Director of the innovative program linking research with practice and licensure, the Master of Science in Research Practices.

Cheng has pioneered research surrounding the intersection of design and emerging technologies including work on industry adoption of IPD, BIM and Lean.

Cheng is a licensed architect who is active with AIA nationally and served as 2009 President of AIA Minnesota and was elevated to the College of Fellows in 2016. She serves as the inaugural Chair of the Lean Construction Institute Research Committee and regularly advises the General Services Administration on issues of high performing buildings and collaborative teams.
